The splendor of the Magic Town Music Festival would never happen without the generous donation of time and love of its amazing team! Magic Town Music is produced by 100% volunteer efforts. From ticket sales to travel arrangements, to the artists themselves- the efforts of all those involved are beyond priceless. Your dedication to making San Miguel de Allende a quality community will never go unnoticed. You are all angels!
Carrie Cameron: Co-Founder of the Magic Town Music Festival
Carrie is an artist who moved to San Miguel de Allende seven years ago. As co-founder of Texas based Love Life Foundation, her efforts have helped raise over $2M dollars for at-risk women and children. An avid music lover, Magic Town Music Festival is her latest avenue for raising funds and awareness to the needs of children in the Mexican communities of Guanajuato, Mexico.
Rusty Henson: Co-Founder of the Magic Town Music Festival
Rusty Henson has been involved in charitable pursuits for over 25 years. He first volunteered with the National Sports Center for the Disabled in Winter Park, Colorado as a ski instructor, has introduced hundreds of children to aviation with the EAA Young Eagles program (later helping to begin the “Jóvenes Águilas” program in Mexico) and served for many years on the Board of Directors of the Metro Denver Boys and Girls Club before moving to Mexico. He started piano lessons at 4 years of age and both music and supporting children’s charities continues to be an important part of his life.
One of the “smart guys”, Rich is a cutting-edge computer scientist who is able to base his consulting business here in San Miguel because he is, well, a “smart guy”. When not running the technical side of things for MTMF, Rich is an accomplished pilot and volunteer for the “Jóvenes Äguilas” program for the Amigos de la Aviación de San Miguel (children’s aviation education and free airplane rides). Rich brings a lot to MTMF!
It just wouldn’t be Magic Town Music Festival without our good friend and stage manager Johnny Starbuck. In 2014, when we first started our plans for the first MTMF, our founder, Carrie Cameron, lucked out one night and met Johnny Starbuck at a bar. Being a local legend partly do to his professional pedigree (having worked with The Rolling Stones for over 32 years) but mostly because he’s just a fantastic guy, Carrie wasted no time in explaining her idea. Not only did he sign up to help just a few minutes in, when that first festival ended, he told Carrie- “whatever you do in the future, I’m in.”Having retired to San Miguel with the love of his life, Joannie, Johnny has taught us so much over the years about festivals- ALWAYS on a 100% volunteer basis- Never asking for anything beyond letting him do his job the way he knows it should be done. He’s back with us again this year and we couldn’t be happier. Thank you Johnny Starbuck for your dedication and big heart helping us help others. We love you man!
Singer, guitarist, producer, composer and founder of the Mexican funk band, Pilaseca, San Miguel de Allende superstar, Paco Rivera tours all over North America and has worked with engineers and producers for Michael Jackson, Macy Gray and Alanis Morissette. Rivera composes music for commercials, films and television and released his first solo album in 2017. We are beyond lucky to have him not only playing in the festival but helping us pull this all together!
Carmen Salmerón and Jose Luis Deanda
Were it not for the “local knowledge”, perseverance, patience, and happy attitudes of these two, Magic Town Music Festival might never have taken flight in 2014. Dealing with local government, vendors, volunteers, contracts, translations, and “management”, Carmen and “JLD” have truly been the “WD-40” for the months leading up to the Festival every year! We couldn’t do it without them!
Linnea of Linnea Rufo Events is a chef and events extraordinaire from Connecticut. She brings a lifelong passion to her work and more than 25 years of experience in the hospitality field. She has worked in Manhattan with Jean Georges-Vongerichten at the Mercer Kitchen and other accomplished chefs such as Jacque Pepin and Dorie Greenspan. A few years ago, after a spontaneous trip to San Miguel de Allende on the recommendation of a client, she felt the magic and realized she had found a new home. This is the first year Linnea has been part of the MTMF team and we are so lucky to have her!
Victor Hugo has been in the special event, interior design and wedding business for 25 years. Having moved to San Miguel de Allende from South Texas, three years ago, his floral designs and refined sense of aesthetics attract what he calls “boutique weddings”- full of custom curated detail. Also participating in a wide array of creative collaborations including festivals, non-profit fundraisers, theatrical productions, and more. This year he brings his distinctive panache to the MTMF VIP party as Creative Director/Coordinator. We couldn’t feel luckier!
Janell Christopher Meador
Janell grew up in the Ozark hills of Missouri (but she is still not grown-up!). She became involved with the vibrant local art scene after moving to Kansas City in her fifties (first time living in a big city!) and worked with the regional art magazine REVIEW. After 21 years as a librarian in the public school system, she retired and moved to San Miguel. This is her third year with MTMF, and we love having her!
Not only is this Anne’s first year working with MTMF, this is still her first few months in San Miguel! An adventurer at heart, she loves any challenge that will help her learn and grow. With a wide variety of experience, skills and interests, Anne is great at filling in wherever she is needed and is excited to be a part of the team supporting such an incredible cause. We are so glad to have her!
